Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Karius has hit back at his critics, singling out “very critical” Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville.
The German shotstopper spilled the ball to allow Bournemouth's Nathan Ake to score an injury time winner after the Reds had led 3-1 at Dean Court last weekend.
The 23-year-old was much maligned for his part in Liverpool’s capitulation, with Neville and fellow pundit, Jamie Carragher offering scathing criticism.
Club legend, Carragher suggested that the former Mainz man does not look like a Liverpool goalkeeper, whilst Neville stated Karius "transmits anxiety all the way through a team.”
But Karius has bitten back.
"Carragher was here at Liverpool for a long time so maybe after the game he was a bit frustrated,’ Karius told MailOnline. "He is probably still a supporter. I have to accept it.
"What critics say right after the game, I don’t know what I think. If you asked them again would they say it now?”
So what about Neville?
"I don’t care what Gary Neville said. He was a manager for a short bit and now he is back to being an expert again.
"But he is always very critical. I think he does it to everyone. I just hope that when I do well, he will comment on that. We will see in the future.”
The youngster, who spent time (2009-11) in Manchester City’s youth set-up, held his hands up for the costly error but is adamant that the criticism will not affect his determination to succeed at Liverpool.
"It was my mistake, no doubt about it,’ said Karius. ‘I think it looked a bit easier on TV than it was but I should have caught it and I don’t need anybody to tell me it was bad... because I know.
"I am sorry that it cost us a point."
Neville later posted on Instagram: "My sincere apologies Karius. You're right. A failed manager hasn't a clue. I won't copy your great fan, pundit and club legend again. ‬"
Karius' manager, Jurgen Klopp launched a staunch defence of his No1, saying he’d only heard of “harsh criticism.”
"When we analysed the game, we found eight players who could have defended the goal before Loris was involved,” insisted the Reds boss.
"Even the best goalkeepers in the world make mistakes. De Gea made one similar recently. There is no perfect recipe for development."
Having spent two days in the Barcelona sun for a quick winter break, Liverpool will hope to bounce back from the Cherries' defeat as they host West Ham on Sunday.
